The Treasury Solicitor manages a wide range of legal matters effecting the Government but is also involved in a number of aspects of company law. Many outside the legal profession, and even some within it, do not know much about this department of government, so below are some facts we think make interesting reading :-

  • Treasury Solicitor’s department has more lawyers than any UK law firm, some 650 together with an additional 150 other fee-earners.
  • The department charges fees both internally, to the Government, just like the way other law firms charge, and also externally
  • The Treasury Solicitor team deals with some 30,000 disputes a year
  • In addition to a huge litigation caseload, the function of the department is to provide legal advice to other government departments,
  • The department has  afar better record than most law firms on employing a diverse mix of people
  • nearly half of the staff at the Treasury Solicitors are women, and there is a very healthy job sharing and flexible work ethos.
